It’s always nice when there’s a little industry buzz surrounding a new product and that product just happens to be your own. Take the new exhaust system that we developed in partnership with Yoshimura for the Polaris RZR, RZR S and RZR 4, as an example.

What seems to be impressing drivers and critics alike, was our ability to create The Best-case Scenario — a system that combines less noise, less weight and more horsepower. Brit Mansell, editor of UTV and, had the following testimonial on the new DFR by Yoshimura Polaris RZR exhaust system:

Mansell, a respected powersports industry editor, echoes our thinking when we came up with this innovative exhaust system. Just like our parents used to shout at us when we were kids: “Keep the noise down!” Truth is, there are a lot of mandated noise restrictions out there, and more are being imposed on the riding public each year. In addition, there are a lot of folks in our own ranks who would just prefer to not have — or have to listen to — a super loud exhaust.

But in addition to curbing the noise, our ultimate goal for this system was to optimize horsepower gains while still maintaining some pretty fantastic sound quality. Here are some stats regarding our power output:

  • The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for this system is 39.9 horsepower with 32.6 pounds-feet of torque.
  • Install the Yoshimura open system and that climbs to 42.8 hp with 34.0 lbs-ft of torque.
  • Add the Yoshimura with spark arrester and you get 42.9 hp with 34.7 lbs-ft of torque.

The new DFR by Yoshimura Polaris RZR exhaust system outperforms stock exhaust systems throughout the rpm range. In addition, the system is 1.5 pounds lighter than stock, meets or beats U.S.D.A. Forest Service (USFS) noise and spark-arrestor specs, and is created entirely from 304 stainless steel for durability.

The header and tailpipe are made of polished 18-gauge 304 stainless steel win a CNC mandrel-bent construction, MIG welding, rubber insulating mounting points and doughnut-style gaskets.

The muffler features 20-gauge 304 stainless steel, is CNC rolled, features a robot-welded canister shell and a modular three-piece bracket design. It also has a USFS-approved spark arrestor and a “Silent Sport” muffler packing.
