Why it makes sense to customize your UTV

They say you can’t put lipstick on a pig, but the truth of the matter is you can. Slap on all the lipstick you want and maybe put a ribbon on its tail and spray it with perfume, but that doesn’t mean the decorated porker will be any prettier.

Besides, when it comes to customizing your UTV, ATV or other off-road vehicle, function has always taken priority over appearance.

We mean, why on earth would anyone buy a brand new UTV and run it stock? Where’s the fun in that? First off — and we mean no disrespect to vehicle manufacturers when we say this — but when you settle for stock equipment on your off-road vehicle, you’re settling for second best. That just doesn’t cut in when you consider the reason you bought the darned thing in the first place was to have fun!

While some claim installing superficial or cosmetic products on your UTV is just a futile attempt to disguise the true nature of the stock machine, we happen to disagree. But that’s really not the point. Here, we’re talking about well-designed, custom, functioning aftermarket parts that go a long way in improving the performance of your UTV.

Don’t get us wrong — stock equipment is fine and dandy. Ever since Henry Ford slapped two semi-elliptic springs on his first Model T back in 1909, manufacturers have produced hundreds of thousands of stock parts. And for the most part, they all work just fine!

But you should want much more than “just fine.” When you come back from a weekend desert run and somebody asks you how it went, do you want to say, “Just fine,” or do you want to say, “It was the most fantastic weekend of my life, only to be outdone by the one I’m going have five days now!”

Aftermarket products improve performance, which means they automatically improve the experience on the dirt and sand. Check out the difference between your stock exhaust and intakes compared to a custom set.

Sure, custom parts like seats and cages look great. But they also provide comfort and safety. Improved suspensions allow you to go faster and ride harder without busting your components to smithereens. And ECUs and threaded aftermarket shock bodies enable you to improve the adjustability throughout your customization.

You can optimize custom applications like paddle tires for sand dunes and bead locks for rough terrain. And you better your chances of surviving a rollover with four-point harnesses rather than those stock automotive-style restraints.

Your friendly UTV manufacturer produces many, many stock parts — bucketloads of stock parts — while your aftermarket builder focuses on just a few custom parts that are created as if the craftsman’s reputation rests on their success. And that’s because it does.
